- 3
Tap after each finished motif
Press Space or tap + Count after weaving in ends.
- 4
Log colors
Write each motif's color in the notes box to balance colors across the layout.
Motif Production Counter Formula
The Motif Production Counter formula converts a blanket size into a motif grid and total.
Motifs across = Blanket width ÷ Motif width
Motifs down = Blanket length ÷ Motif height
Total motifs = Motifs across × Motifs down
- Motif width
- Measured width of one blocked motif
- Blanket width and length
- Planned finished size
Worked example: A 48 × 60 inch (122 × 152 cm) throw of 6-inch squares needs 8 × 10 = 80 motifs.
Motif Production Counter Conversion Table
The Motif Production Counter conversion table lists motif totals for common blanket sizes with 4-inch (10 cm), 6-inch (15 cm) and 8-inch (20 cm) square motifs.
| Blanket (in) | Blanket (cm) | 4-in motifs | 6-in motifs | 8-in motifs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 24 × 24 | 61 × 61 | 36 | 16 | 9 |
| 36 × 36 | 91.4 × 91.4 | 81 | 36 | 16 |
| 36 × 48 | 91.4 × 121.9 | 108 | 48 | 24 |
| 48 × 60 | 121.9 × 152.4 | 180 | 80 | 42 |
| 60 × 72 | 152.4 × 182.9 | 270 | 120 | 63 |
| 72 × 96 | 182.9 × 243.8 | 432 | 192 | 108 |
Totals use whole motifs only. Joins and borders add width.
What is a Motif Production Counter?
A motif production counter is a counter that tallies finished squares, hexagons, flowers or other motifs against the total a project needs. The Crochet Stitch Counter Motif Production Counter tracks progress toward a 48-square blanket or a 120-hexagon throw.
Motif projects repeat one small piece many times. The total depends on the blanket size and the motif size. A 36 × 48 inch (91 × 122 cm) blanket made of 6-inch (15 cm) squares needs 6 × 8 = 48 squares.
Counting finished motifs shows how close you are to joining.
